Shrubby evergreen plants, native to southern Africa. Many resembling heather in habit. Species of the genera Brunia and Berzelia are cultivated as ornamentals.

They depict plants growing in the Hackney nursery, founded by Conrad Loddiges and bearing his name. The establishment became famous for its many rare plants.
